Alabaster DePlume, one of Europe’s most exciting musicians, is coming to OPEN JAZZ VIENNA.
A performance by Manchester-born, London-based Alabaster DePlume is never just a concert. The bandleader, composer, saxophonist and activist, whose music has been sampled by Bon Iver and Kendrick Lamar, often interrupts his music to tell anecdotes or recite poetry. Although DePlume's songs are often based on sonorous, circular melodies and bright tones, his music can also veer towards punk or result in confusing improvisations.
Alabaster DePlume and his trio can be safely viewed as an open work of art in which people are always the focus. He uses his music to create community. One of his central messages to his audience is: "Don't forget that you are valuable."
